Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1910, Ira Current became active in photography in 1924, photographing area people, scenery, and events. He worked part-time and summers and one full year in Stewart Brothers photo finishing and photoengravers from 1928 until 1933. The fine arts department at the University of Colorado in Boulder provided work and a darkroom studio that was supplemented by portrait and other photography to finance his bachelor's degree in 1934.
